“Hosting a VISTA is truly an enjoyable process. The VISTAs are brilliant and enthusiastic. They have a good work ethic and heartily want to serve Erie. VISTAs bring a breath of fresh air to nonprofits” ~Karen G., Supervisor
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 50 years. All projects are designed to address the needs of low-income communities by building permanent infrastructure in organizations to help them more effectively bring individuals and communities out of poverty. Projects must align with one of four categories: Economic Opportunity, Education, Healthy Futures, or Veterans and Military Families.
Local public, private, or faith-based nonprofit organizations, schools, and local, state, or federal agencies interested in hosting a VISTA member must contact Erin O'Day-Frye, Project Director at http://firstname.lastname@example.org or 814-332-5318 to discuss application processes and procedures. Host sites must be able to direct the project, provide one-to-one supervision of the VISTA member, and provide necessary administrative support to complete the goals and objectives of the project. The goals and objectives must be clearly defined and directed toward alleviating problems of low-income communities, and meet the regulations of the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Potential host sites will submit a Concept Application - available mid-October. VISTA members begin their year of service late July/early August.
